I quote the full price on the phone before I set off, with no call-out fee.

Emergency Lockouts

Most of the emergency lockouts I get called to are uPVC front doors where the euro cylinder has snapped, dropped a pin, or the gearbox has finally given up after two decades of being slammed by family life. The 1990s and 2000s estates around Wolverhampton, Cannock and the wider West Midlands are full of doors with cylinders that were never anti-snap rated, and they get tested by every chancer with a pair of pliers. When you ring Lockerfella you get me. I confirm a price on the phone, give you a realistic ETA, keep you updated by text if I'm on the way from another job, and most lockouts across south Staffordshire and the Wolverhampton area I'm on the doorstep within 15 to 30 minutes.

I use non-destructive entry wherever the lock allows it: picking, decoding, or bumping the cylinder open without any damage to the door or frame. Drilling is the last resort, not the first. If the lock does need replacing after entry, I carry a range of anti-snap and insurance-approved cylinders on the van (Avocet ABS, Ultion, ERA Invincible) so it's sorted in the same visit, not a second call-out.

What I offer

  • Emergency lockout assistance (home, office, and vehicle lockouts)
  • Non-destructive entry techniques
  • Broken key extraction
  • Immediate lock repairs on-site
  • Burglary damage repairs and securing properties

Lock Repairs and Replacements

Not every faulty lock needs ripping out. About nine times in ten, when someone calls me about a stiff or jamming euro cylinder, the fix is a clean, a re-alignment and a bit of PTFE lubricant rather than a new lock. People are often surprised that the cylinder they were ready to bin is back to working order in under twenty minutes. I diagnose on the doorstep, explain what's going on, and give you an honest recommendation. If it can be repaired I'll repair it. If it genuinely needs replacing I'll tell you why and fit a new lock there and then.

I fit locks from Yale, ERA, Union, and Avocet as standard, and I stock anti-snap, anti-drill, and anti-bump cylinders rated to TS007 and Sold Secure Diamond. If your insurance company requires a lock meeting BS 3621, I carry those too. All locks come with the manufacturer's warranty on top of my own 12-month workmanship guarantee.

What I offer

  • Repair of jammed or faulty locks
  • Full lock replacements (all types and brands)
  • Anti-snap and anti-drill lock upgrades
  • Insurance-approved lock installations
  • Keyed-alike and master key systems

Locksmith's hands fitting a multi-point gearbox into a white uPVC door

uPVC Door and Window Locks

uPVC doors have their own world of problems that most general locksmiths don't deal with. Dropped doors that won't latch. Floppy handles that lift but don't engage. Gearboxes that have given up after two decades of being slammed. I work on uPVC every week. The gearboxes I pull out most often around Wolverhampton, Cannock and Stafford are Fullex, GU (Gretsch-Unitas), Mila and Lockmaster, and I carry strips for all four on the van so most jobs are sorted in a single visit. If your handle has gone limp or the key turns but the bolts don't move, it's almost always the gearbox strip rather than the handle.

The gearboxes I see most often in this area are Fullex, GU (Gretsch-Unitas), Mila, and Lockmaster. If your door handle has gone limp or the key turns but the bolts don't move, it's almost always the gearbox strip, not the handle. I measure the backset, centres, and overall length on site and either fit from van stock or source the exact part within 24 hours. I also fix door alignment issues caused by hinge drop or frame settlement, which is common in older builds.

What I offer

  • uPVC door lock repairs and replacements
  • Multi-point locking system repairs
  • Door alignment adjustments
  • Window lock repairs
  • Gearbox and mechanism replacement

Locksmith fitting a high-security master-key cylinder to the glass front door of a small shop

Commercial Locksmith

Shops, offices, and small industrial units have different security needs from a home. The most common problem I get called to in commercial premises is staff turnover with no record of who's still got which keys. The fix is rarely changing every lock in the building, it's swapping the cylinders to a restricted-key system so only you can authorise copies. From there I can plan a master-key hierarchy that fits the way your business actually works, fit everything with minimal disruption to the working day, and leave you with a card that proves only you can order more keys.

I work with high-security systems from Mul-T-Lock, EVVA, and Yale commercial ranges. For master key setups I plan the key hierarchy before ordering, so every door is covered and the system can grow as your business does. Emergency call-outs for commercial premises follow the same no-call-out-fee, 24/7 policy as residential: a locked-out shop at 6am on a Monday morning gets the same response as a house at midnight.

What I offer

  • Commercial lock installation and upgrades
  • Master key systems for access control
  • High-security locks and restricted key systems
  • Emergency locksmith services for businesses
  • Shutter and security door lock repairs

Smiling homeowner being handed a new set of keys on the doorstep of a British semi-detached house

Residential Locksmith

Whether you've just moved into a new place, had a break-in, or simply want better locks on your doors, my first job is honest assessment. I don't push unnecessary work. If your existing locks are fine I'll tell you. If they're not, I'll explain what's wrong and give you options at different price points before I start anything. The first thing I check on any home security walkthrough is the front door cylinder. If it's a standard euro without a sacrificial snap-line, that's the single most common weak point I see, and it's a quick, affordable fix that genuinely changes how secure your front door is.

For new homeowners, I'd always recommend changing the front and back door cylinders at minimum. You don't know how many copies of the old keys are floating around. I fit insurance-approved cylinders rated to BS 3621 and TS007 3-star as standard, and I can set up matching keys across multiple doors so you only carry one key for the whole house. Window locks, garage locks, and patio door locks are all part of the service.

What I offer

  • Lock changes and upgrades after moving home
  • Emergency home lockout assistance
  • Home security checks and recommendations
  • Deadbolt and smart lock installations
  • Window and garage lock solutions

Common situations I get called to

The mechanical job is a lockout, a gearbox, a cylinder. The actual moment you're in is usually something else. Here's what to do, and what I do, in the situations I get called to most.

Locked out with children or pets inside

Tell me first thing on the phone. Stay outside, keep them in sight through a window if you can. If you can pass food, water or a bottle through the letterbox while you wait, do that. Most of these I can open non-destructively, so the door is fine afterwards and there's nothing else to fix once you're back in.

Elderly relative can't get into their home

I'll prioritise these calls. Tell me on the phone if there's medication inside they need quickly, or if they have hearing or mobility difficulties so I know how to handle the door. I'll always show photo ID at the door before they have to let me in.

Lock change after a break-in or attempted break-in

Standard kit on the van for these is a TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder, the spec most UK home insurance policies ask for on a uPVC front door (confirm with your own insurer if they require a different standard). If your insurer needs an itemised receipt with the BS or TS spec on it, that's what I provide. If the police gave you a crime reference number, I'll put it on the receipt too.

Lost or stolen keys

If they're stolen specifically (handbag, jacket, work bag), don't just have new keys cut. The cylinder needs changing because someone else now has a copy. Same call-out as anything else, and most jobs are one visit because I keep cylinders in stock on the van.

Lock change for a new tenant or after moving in

Common one. The previous occupier's keys are an unknown, so most people change the cylinders day one. If you're a tenant and your landlord is paying, I can quote them direct or invoice you and you settle it with them. Same job, same price either way.

Locks changed urgently and discreetly

Discretion is the default on these. I keep the visit short, no name on the receipt if you'd rather, no follow-up calls or marketing. I won't ask why beyond what I need to know to do the job. If you need the visit timed for when neighbours aren't around, tell me when you ring and I'll do my best to fit it.

The same chrome badge is on his navy branded t-shirt and on the van's side panel next to the phone number 07386 341725.

When I arrive at your door

I'll show photo ID before I expect you to let me in. I'm Standard DBS checked, and the redacted certificate is published on the About page with the original available to view in person on request before I enter your home. The van is branded Lockerfella so you can see who's pulling up. I won't enter the property without confirming the person on site has the right to authorise the work, and I won't push for a decision if you need a minute.

About the locksmith

Who's actually turning up at your door

I'm Sean Hamilton. I run Lockerfella. The reason this page lists what I do and the brands I fit is so you can read it before you ring rather than after. Here's a bit more about who's actually showing up.

  • 30+ years fascinated by locks. I've been picking, stripping and studying locks for the love of it for over 30 years. Lockerfella is what happens when a lifelong interest in how locks work becomes the day job.
  • Trained and certified. Certificate of Locksmith Skills from A'Jam Locksmiths covering cylinder, mortice, padlock, wafer and euro lock picking, plus re-keying and mortice bypassing.
  • Standard DBS checked, £1M insured, 12 months workmanship guarantee. Redacted DBS and insurance certificates are published on the About page, with originals available to view in person before work starts.
  • One man, one van, one phone number. The phone rings on me directly. No call centre. No third-party fitter. If I quote you a price, that's the price you pay.

Service questions

Specifics about what is and isn't included, timing, and how to get the most out of a call-out.

What's included when I book a job?

There is no call-out fee. I only charge for the actual labour to do the job and any parts I need to fit. Diagnosis on the doorstep is free, and I quote the all-in price on the phone before I set off. New locks, gearboxes and cylinders are itemised separately so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

How long does a typical lockout take to fix?

Most non-destructive entries are open within 10 to 20 minutes of me arriving. uPVC multi-point gearbox jobs usually take 30 to 60 minutes depending on the door. I'll tell you what to expect when I see the job.

Do I need to be at the property when you arrive?

Yes, or someone you trust who can show ID. I won't let myself into a property without confirming the person on site has the right to be there. It protects you and it protects me.

Will my insurance cover the repair?

Many home insurance policies cover emergency lockouts and lock replacement after a break-in. I always provide a clear, itemised receipt so you can claim from your insurer. If your policy needs a British Standard lock fitted, I carry stock that meets BS 3621.

Can you fit anti-snap locks?

Yes. Anti-snap, anti-drill, anti-pick and anti-bump cylinders are all part of the standard kit on the van. If your current lock is the older style with the snap-line in the middle, I'd strongly recommend upgrading.

Do you do commercial as well as residential?

Yes. Shops, offices, small industrial units, master-key systems, restricted-key systems, shutter locks, the lot. Out-of-hours calls are no problem for businesses that can't afford to be locked out at 2am.

How long is your work guaranteed for?

Workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months from the date of installation, on top of any manufacturer warranty on the parts themselves.

Will you show ID when you arrive?

Yes. I'll show photo ID at the door before you have to open up. The van is branded Lockerfella so you'll see it pull up too. I'm Standard DBS checked, and the certificate date is on the About page if you want to verify before I get there.

Can you come discreetly without a marked van outside?

The van is branded, which is a legitimate-trade signal that helps most callers, but discretion matters in some situations. Tell me on the phone what you need. I can usually time the arrival so the visit is short, keep no name on the receipt if you'd rather, and skip any follow-up calls or marketing. The van branding itself I can't remove, but everything else can be quiet.

What if the person locked out is elderly, vulnerable or has medication inside?

Tell me on the phone first thing. Calls where someone's vulnerable, elderly, has medication or essential supplies inside, or is otherwise at risk get prioritised. I'll always show photo ID at the door before they have to let me in. If hearing or mobility makes the door difficult, tell me on the phone and I'll work to that.

Honest reviews mean the next person locked out at 2am calls a real locksmith, not a call centre.

One for the road?

Ask the padlock a daft question before you go. Finish "Could Lockerfella...?" and let it decide. The answer's always yes.
